UBQ Materials has been awarded a Silver Edison Award in the Carbon Reduction Through Advanced Materials category at the 2025 Edison Awards, held in Fort Myers, Florida. The recognition honors the company’s innovative UBQ ClimaPos™, a pioneering bio-based thermoplastic material made from 100% mixed household waste. The event celebrated the year’s most impactful innovations, recognizing UBQ for its contribution to carbon reduction and sustainable material development.

This moment marks another milestone for UBQ on its mission to reshape the way the world manufactures, from waste to worth.

Edison Awards Background

Often referred to as the “Oscars of Innovation,” the Edison Awards have been honoring world-changing ideas since 1987. In 2025, the event brought together innovators from over 20 countries, spotlighting the most forward-thinking products, companies, and breakthroughs shaping the future.

But these awards aren’t handed out lightly. The Edison Awards only recognize the “best of the best”, trailblazing technologies that combine ingenuity, impact, and commercial success.

During a conversation with Frank Bonafilia, Executive Director of the Edison Awards, he described this year’s showcase as “the coolest innovators showcase” he’s seen in 25 years of involvement with the program. He stated: “There’s a lot of game-changing innovation here today.

He also noted that material science is one of the toughest categories to win, a space where scientific rigor meets real-world scalability. That’s what makes UBQ’s Silver win even more significant: recognition not just for a good idea, but for a breakthrough ready to change the world.

The Edison Awards 2025

The 2025 Edison Awards brought together the world’s leading innovators, creators, and changemakers. Finalists ranged from advanced AI to clean tech pioneers, all pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

UBQ Materials was there to represent the frontier of sustainable materials, spotlighting how landfill or incinerator-destined waste can be converted into a climate-positive thermoplastic used across industries. With leaders from tech, science, entertainment, and sustainability in attendance, it was the perfect place to showcase the power of the UBQ solution.

The UBQ booth turned heads with a vibrant display of products manufactured using the company’s climate-positive material. From planters and luxury vinyl tiles to hangers and fan-favorite Adirondack deck chair, each item told a story of transformation: once waste, now an everyday product that gave waste a new life.

Even Chuck Nice, American comedian, TV personality and climate advocate, who served as the event’s master of ceremonies, stopped by at the UBQ booth to learn more and interact with products made with UBQ™ material. 

Chuck Nice’s Talk

When it came time for Chuck Nice to take the main stage, he brought more than just jokes, he brought UBQ™. Literally. Proudly showcasing a UBQ-made Adirondack deck chair made by Seaside Casual Furniture and a planter made by Crescent Garden. Chuck made the material part of his message, highlighting how waste can be reborn into products that are functional, beautiful, and sustainable.

Speaking to an audience of 800 attendees, Chuck delivered laughter and insight in equal measure. He emphasized the urgent need for innovation in climate action and praised UBQ for offering a scalable, circular solution that merges environmental benefit with practical design.
