Climate-positive UBQ™ material derived from landfill-destined household waste achieves international recognition as raw material for industrial manufacturing applications

TEL AVIV, Israel – March 22, 2021 – UBQ Materials, developer of the most climate-positive thermoplastic material on the market, today announced that it has earned ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification for Quality and Environmental Management Systems, following a successful audit by the Institute of Quality & Control. This accreditation certifies that the company is compliant with the international standard for the production and marketing of raw materials for manufacturing use in various sectors using the UBQ™ material.

ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognized quality standard intended to ensure the consistent design, development, production and sale of products that are fit for purpose per the intended use. ISO 14001 is a similar certification intended to provide a framework for companies to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions.

“Earning this certification reflects UBQ’s drive to always reach the most demanding international standards and the highest level of quality and consistency in our production,” said Tato Bigio, Co-Founder and CEO of UBQ Materials. “Novel end-of-life solutions for society’s virtually limitless household waste are imperative to address the global climate emergency. With landfills accounting for over 15 percent of all human-related methane emissions, there is an urgent need to rethink how we process waste. These certifications reinforce UBQ’s role at the forefront of sustainable materials innovation and production.”

UBQ Materials’ patented technology converts landfill-destined household waste into a sustainable, bio-based, cost-competitive thermoplastic material, UBQ™. A proprietary, climate-positive material, UBQ™ can substitute conventional oil-based plastics in the manufacturing of thousands of everyday products, fitting in seamlessly with current manufacturing practices. For every ton of UBQ™ material produced, close to 12 tons of CO2 eq emissions are averted, preventing significant greenhouse gas emissions from landfills where municipal waste would otherwise decompose and release methane and other toxic gases into the environment.

UBQ Materials has previously earned a USDA-certified bio-based product label and the UBQ™ Life Cycle Assessment, completed by Quantis, complies with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 certifications.
